Enterprise Wellness, which manages the Healthwatch Harrow Service, is seeking to appoint a functional Chair and Members of the Healthwatch Harrow (HWH) Board to commence by April 2017, initially for one year. This is an unpaid, voluntary role, but reasonable out of pocket expenses will be met.
The purpose of the HWH Board is to advise and further the work of HWH, whose purpose is to gather and represent the views of local residents to influence and improve local health and social care services.
The role of the Chair and Board Members is to ensure that the HWH Board is managed efficiently, effectively and in line with its Terms of Reference, code of conduct and best practice.
We are looking for people who are committed and passionate about encouraging local people to help to shape health and social care services in Harrow.

Volunteers are important to Healthwatch Harrow. Volunteers play a crucial role in helping to ensure that we continue to engage, interact and understand health issues with our community with regards to improving health and social care services in Harrow. We are keen to involve people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds, to support our work as volunteers. You may or may not have an interest in health or social care.
There are many and varied ways and roles in which volunteer help is needed:
Community Champions attend statutory provider boards and commissioners meetings to provide a service users perspective on current services and proposed changes. This role involves participating in the Expert Panel – where volunteers provide the insight of “expertise by experience”
Marketing & Publicity Assistant
An outreach role, including assistance with obtaining views from members of the public and spreading information on health and social care in the community. You may also assist our staff and other volunteers at Healthwatch Harrow’s public events and meetings. The work may involve directing people to a seat, organising events, producing newsletters, flyers, manning stalls and distributing or collecting questionnaires.
Enter and View Authorised Representatives and PLACE Assessors
As part of our role, we have a right to conduct “enter and view” on any premises that are publically funded and offering health and social care services (with the exception of children’s social care).
Enter & View - These observations are carried out in different care settings (eg nursing homes) as a result of being informed of concerns by members of the public. We visit premises to observe the nature and quality of services.
PLACE (Patient-Led assessment of the care environment) inspections organised by CNWL annually. The results are reported publicly to help drive improvements in the care environment and also show how hospitals are performing nationally and locally. “PLACE” assessors report on the quality of the environment in hospitals and care homes
To conduct small research projects with minimum supervision. Participate in some desk top research and preparation work for Enter and View visits. Assisting with conducting Focus group, Surveys etc. Contribute to research design and assist with producing reports.
All existing and new volunteers will be given the necessary training and support.
